Technicians for Fall 2024

Position Title: Fisheries Research Technician (multiple openings)

Location: Darien, GA 

Dates: approximately September - December

Close Date: August 15, 2024 (applications will be considered as they arrive)

Description: The Fox Lab at UGA is conducting research on three species of sturgeon in coastal Georgia and the Florida Panhandle. Ongoing projects in 2024 include collection of life history and habitat use data for Atlantic, Shortnose, and Gulf Sturgeons 

Responsibilities: Technician responsibilities will include the operation and trailering of small (17-21’) boats in riverine and coastal environments, fish sampling with gill and trammel nets, maintenance of acoustic receiver arrays, and data entry.  Technicians will assist with gear maintenance, including mending nets and repairs.  Technicians work 40 hours per week.  Applicants must be able to tolerate a variety of inclement field conditions including hot/cold weather, biting insects, and occasional rough water conditions.

Qualifications: Interest in fisheries. Experience with safe operation of boats/trailers and an ability to work independently is highly desirable. On-the-job training will be provided. Must be able to work well in a small group and share living space with the team. 

Salary: Starting at $13.75 hourly, depending on education/experience.  Housing (including utilities and internet) is provided.
